The New Science of Neuroinflammation and How to Protect Your Brain with Dr. Austin Perlmutter

September 22, 2022 By Paul

A large number of people around the world suffer from depression, and for a long time, the understanding of depression was based on seratonin. Basically, it was believed that if you had lower levels of seratonin, this would lead to depression. In the last several decades, however, scientists have started to doubt this theory. New theories believe that some of the things that contribute to depression are hormones, metabolic health, and gut health. They have also said that the lifestyle in which we live can potentially prevent or manage depression.

Key Takeaways:

  • Dr. Austin Perlmutter talks with Dhru about challenges to the idea that serotonin play a large role in depression.
  • Dr. Perlmutter is coauthor of the book Brain Wash and host of the Get The STUCK Out podcast.
  • The conversation discusses how brain function is impacted by food and by exposure to particulate matter.

“They also discuss how there is a lot we can do through our lifestyle choices to help prevent and even manage depression.”
