The Blue Zones: Longevity Secrets from Centenarians

As we age, there are many physical limitations that we must face. Often, we associate getting older with deteriorating health, more pain, and cognitive limitations. Considering how most people want to live as long a life as possible, researchers were interested in discovering the secrets of human longevity. In particular, they were curious as to where people lived the longest, as well as which ones led the healthiest lifestyles, and how this contributed to longevity and vitality. Therefore, they created the concept of a “blue zone” which highlights areas of extreme longevity. Studies showed that a person living in a Blue Zone was ten times more likely to reach the age of 100 when compared to a person living in the U.S. as a whole.
