Avocado Nutrition Facts and Health Benefits

February 28, 2022 By Paul

The avocado has been called a superfood, though they are high in calories and fat. A half an avocado contains 160 calories and nearly 15 grams of fat. However, most of the fat is healthier monounsaturated fat. The carbohydrates in avocados are mostly fiber and not sugar, making it a low-glycemic food. While avocados aren’t high in protein, they are a good source of vitamins and minerals. Avocados can help manage diabetes, reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, and prevent cancer. In addition, they promote weight loss because the fiber in them creates a feeling of fullness. There are many varieties of avocados available, but Hass are the most common. Avocados can be eaten many ways, such as being added to sandwiches, omelets or scrambled eggs.

Key Takeaways:

  • Avocados contain a lot of monounsaturated fats and HDL, the good cholesterol.
  • Avocados are considered to be very nutrient dense being at around 200 calories
  • Avocados contain no sugar at all making it great for people with dietary restrictions.

“Not only are avocado calories high, but most of the calories come from fat.”
