Understanding Set Point Theory in a Nutrition and Weight Loss Context

Set point theory is the idea that the human body has a certain weight it wants to maintain and your body will adapt and hold that weight if it can. So you body will adjust to periods of more and less food and try to keep your weight the same. This is true in certain ways because our body has mechanisms in place that attempt to keep our weight stable. However, those mechanisms can only do so much and therefore we can still gain and lose big amounts of weight.
