A study of medical and dental students was done using a continuous glucose monitoring, wearable device. This is also known as a CGM. The device helps the wearer to be more aware of the impact their nutrition choices make on their healthy, specifically how their body metabolizes glucose. A well rounded approach to nutrition awareness helps to benefit the patient by providing them with the device as well as training and encouraging good journaling. Another benefit of the study seems to be that it helps medical students understand the approach of medicine from the patient’s point of view as well as the physicians point of view.
Key Takeaways:
- During the study, more and more students asked about opportunities to join the study.
- All of the students in the study felt that it was an experience that proved to be beneficial to their medical learning.
- All of the students in the study thought that they should give every medical student in the future the opportunity to participate in this type of experience.
“After being trained in the responsible use of CGMs and being screened for underlying health conditions, a group of 13 healthy Harvard Medical and Dental students were provided with CGMs for between 30 and 40 days.”
