Intuitive Eating Explained: 10 Principles for Dieting with Intuition

March 12, 2022 By Paul

Intuitive eating is a way to develop a better relationship with food by listening to our bodies. It is not a diet. In fact, it rejects the diet mentality as being short-term and unsustainable. Instead, it stresses recognizing the body’s true signals of hunger. With intuitive eating, you also learn to stop eating when you are satiated. It combats the use food as a coping mechanism and emphasizes accepting your body’s genetic blueprint. Intuitive eaters honor their health by feeding their bodies necessary nutrients. It isn’t just about eating, however. It also involves exercise and mindfulness in movement. Some research suggests that intuitive eating doesn’t help with weight loss, but it may be best suited to enhancing body image satisfaction.

Key Takeaways:

  • Intuitive eating is not dieting, as dieting implies something finite.
  • Paying attention to true hunger cues and making peace with food is better than listening to the food police.
  • Respect your body by accepting your genetic blueprint and appreciating your features and size.
