Living a ketogenic lifestyle has been shown to have many benefits for people with various issues such as dementia, obesity, and diabetes. Additionally, a ketogenic program has shown effectiveness towards Parkinson’s Disease. Researchers at Oxford have been studying the mechanisms by which ketosis plays a role in Parkinson’s Disease. They have found that a unique chemical, which happens to be a type of ketone, plays a key role in possibly improving cellular pathologies of the disease. Thus, by implementing a ketogenic diet in patients, they are given a powerful new tool to help them cope with their condition.

Key Takeaways:

  • Scientists are now getting a better understanding of how a ketogenic diet can help with Parkinson’s disease.
  • D-?-Hydroxybutyrate is a unique chemical and type of ketone which is at the heart of this new research.
  • Newer studies are focusing more on Parkinson’s actual causes versus just managing its symptoms.
