Blueberry Blocking Effects of Yogurt

Blueberry Blocking Effects of Yogurt

August 26, 2022 By Paul

In a study of over 100,000 women, it was found that those who had eaten the highest amount of anthocyanins, which is notably found in blueberries, had a reduced risk of high blood pressure. The people who were eating the most anthocyanins weren’t even eating great numbers of fruits. They were eating approximately six strawberries or eleven blueberries. This is equivalent to about a tenth of a cup of the fruits. In the studies, it was controlled for the fact that the people eating the most fruits also probably had other healthy habits.

Key Takeaways:

  • There is some research to indicate that compounds in dairy block the health benefits of berries.
  • However, there are concerns with how these studies were done, as it can be hard to replicate berries and yogurt in a lab settng.
  • It appears that both milk protein and possibly milk fat can impair the benefits of blueberries.

“You don’t know for sure about the benefits of berries, though, until you put it to the test.”
