What is Keto?

April 6, 2022 By Paul

Ketosis is a metabolic state that essentially is when you have ketone bodies that are elevated. This will get us into a process where we stop eating carbs and then our body uses fat as it’s primary source of fuel. Our brain however cannot rely on fat for fuel alone, it needs another energy source. The keto diet is high in fat and moderate in protein and is the only diet defined by the presence of biomarkers. Those biomarkers being blood, urine and breath ketones.

Key Takeaways:

  • Keto is a type of diet fad where you do not take in any carbs.
  • You will get sick because your body goes through ketosis, hence the name.
  • Your body will change how and what it takes as energy.

“The brain cannot rely on fat for fuel, but needs an alternative energy source in the absence of glucose, so the liver instead converts fats to ketones.”
